summer music coming soon

Lots of new music coming out this summer and keep checking back for links to limited items. Here is a Chunklet 7’ that started off as a ticket sold exclusively thru an Atlanta record store. You can grab a limited copy here.

Once again The White Stripes are using their brains and issuing a limited version of their new LP, Icky Thump, on USB drives. I just couldn’t resist. Also this pre-order includes a limited peppermint slipmat with the purchase of the 2x gatefold vinyl LP. Another great item I picked up recently is a super-limited Sublime Skateboard Deck that came out with the Box Set.

Softball Update: I’ve been contacted by BMac and he claims that my picture didn’t due his bomb justice and that it landed much closer to the Bike Path.

miracle on waseca

Did you see the shooting star last night? Never thought it could happen in a family of mamby-pampy rainbow bloggers, but a relative knocked a bomb out of the park against me last night. With generations of family growing up in Warren there used to be athlete’s sprinkled throughout the cousins and in-laws but no more. Most hide or live with Mom.

Oh, we competed against (and together) before but now we were playing in a fenced field made for lefties and had exchanged funny, taunting e-mails over the winter. Facing each other for the first time in years, my knuckler was all over the place and I was constantly falling behind batters. Forced to throw hittable strikes in the middle of a 4-run game, BMac or Mac2, came up for his third at-bat on a mission, drive in runs. On a 2-0 pitch, he bashed a cherry down the line (see photo above) that sounded solid, surprising everyone, and he ran like his feet were on fire.

After the ball cleared the fence (his teammates were stunned and thought it went UNDER the fence) for a 3-run homer, I started jawing with him around the bases but he couldn’t respond as panic of somehow getting thrown out at the plate took over. I don’t think he ever did get into his home run trot. Awesome BMac, but watch out next time.

In earlier at bats we were reminiscing about the endless games of wiffle ball at our house growing up in Laurel Park during the 70’s. Great fun and the Barrington League is fantastic.

My new favorite band is The Go! from Detroit. I obtained a copy of the vinyl from Stormy Records and originally put it away but it came out this past weekend. Previous singles from Italy Records and Cass had been released but I never really listened to them until now. The cd will be available at Cass real soon.

Do yourself a favor and start with 'Invisible Friends' on the Cass Records Myspace then head over to the bands myspace (listed above) for 'You Go Bangin On'. A mixture of funk, harmony and piano, I found it to be refreshing. Although MSwift will say it sounds too much like the Beatles, I’ve never found anything wrong with that.
