Solar Eclipse

Of course everyone has seen photos (and experienced) a solar eclipse looking at the sun.   But here’s what it looks like ON the earth, from NASA.   Very cool.

chuck and duck

Here is how the pitching position has changed from game-changing to target.   This why there was a screen.

Some rare Nirvana at Reading '91 and, yes, it’s about the showmanship.   Lots of more great videos at the free streaming site:  www.youtube.com

Lofty Goals

The 2006 Porch Reconstruction Project has begun.    The existing porch has been there since we moved in but I took advantage of the great weather and was able to get the area down to this.    The goal is to have a screened porch and covered deck to take advantage of the yard.

Two recent jobs that have come across my desk include a complete reconstruction of a house with this view at the base of the Newport Bridge.    The shingle style house was covered in stucco about 30 years ago and currently being striped back to the framing.   The second job, with this Ocean view in Plymouth will entail converting the ranch into another run-of-the-mill McMansion.

Firebird

After four winters of no activity the car needed to be moved to allow for the garage roof to be fixed.   This beauty, that my wife has owned for 14 years, is still a blast to drive and the muscle car feel is undeniable.    All it took was a gas filter and a new battery to get it purring like a lion and inspection was not a problem.    Now we need a buyer.    Anyone want to take a guess on the year, make and model of this American Classic?

The great Detroit label, Cass Records has released two more 7” vinyl singles.   One from  The Fatals and a second from Alabama singer Dan Sartain, both limited to 500 copies.

A hearty Good Luck to The Staggering Statistics as they embark on a brief four city tour with the Violent Femmes.

Boston

Great night out in Boston last night as we got to see Of Montreal at the Middle East Downstairs. Not the best acoustics in the city but well worth the effort as the two hour performance flew by. After the show we had a chance to say hi to Kevin, Dottie & James then had them sign a few items I brought along. Items from last night.

The night became a little more memorable when my wife got her first traffic ticket EVER.!! How anyone could go so long without contributing any money for any traffic violation was news to me. We missed the “taxi standby” sign and (to my shock) the city had people enforcing the ordinance at midnight on a Sunday. It was also the first time we got in and out of the city without any U-turns.

Got lucky on the Sub Pop pre-order for the Mudhoney LP’s, this weekend the band signed LP's arrived, too bad Pitchfork gave it a 6.1 today.

Sex Pistols 45

Wow, 22K for a 7” single by The Sex Pistols!!   Check this out. And follow it up with a clear explanation as to why it’s so rare on Shallow Rewards.    Although I don’t know the full story, after getting “elected” to the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame the band has refused to show up for the awards ceremony.

The first Red Sox televised game is on today.  Woo Hoo, spring is coming.   I’m still up in the air on this World Baseball Tournament because if anyone significant gets hurt, the owners and fans will be crying fowl.   Although if BWilliams takes out DJeter on a double play, the respect factor may grow.

Lots of rumors shaking out regarding the upcoming softball season in RI.    I have been offered a chance to play on one of the top teams (on paper) with a couple of comrades but the sponsor is a rival that has held us back for a few years.    Not only that, but there is depth on the roster and only the toughest and best will survive the full season.

The challenge is hard but the rewards could be sweet and the opportunity has reawakened my drive to compete at the most competitive level in New England.   Right now the 10-weekend schedule includes planned road trips to NJ &GA and flights to Disney &  Michigan.    Opening Day is April 29th and the season will last until the end of September.

Slumber Party

One of my favorite Detroit bands, Slumber Party, has finally updated their site and added a store. If you look closely you will see two very limited homemade cd’s now available.

The pesky computer problem has been fixed and drafts will not be published anymore. The problem was all internal and a screwdriver straightened it right out.

Collection To Sell

If anyone needs to fill any gaps or interested in any of the first sixty prints available from http://www.tinyshowcase.com/, just send an e-mail to maccadd@aol.com.

An apology is in order to anyone who may have thought I accused them of stealing the PC Friar tickets way back on Nov. 4th. Either the person who got them was smart enough to know they could never sit there or they are hanging in a dorm room. Not once were we asked to leave my wife’s seat. Now, about that license fee.

You Aint No Picasso Rules

You Aint No Picasso has a pretty good music blog and he recently reviewed an Of Montreal show with a special guest appearance from Robert Schneider. Check it out.

We’ll be seeing Kevin Barnes and Co. again this Sunday at the Middle East.
